SOMBRAS SEM FIGURA (shadows without a figure), 2022

Conceived during the Covid pandemic amid various political anomalies in Brazil. Not least, there was also a profound transformation in the sense of image brought about by an excess of virtual practices. It is in this context, of a possible cultural rupture, that the artist addresses the “divided - broken -mended” in works inspired by archaeological finds: totems, shards from Roman gravestones, weeds in the cement, objets trouvés, shadows, and the remnants of images already without figures. According to the artist, more than a vision of the past, it seems that the past is questioning “from over there.” Like a second space within the space, strips of extremely fine photographs are scattered throughout the gallery: they are eyes that spy.
