Lives and works in Rio de Janeiro
Based on her professional and affective experiences in image-making, the artist investigates the limits and parameters of the technical image. A large collection of found photographs is central to her research, which generally addresses the image by evoking it through the articulation of matter. Rather than iconographic memories, her works speak of forgettings contained in “papers” embedded with traces of human presence—remnants of a past mass phenomenon (Kodak, Agfa, etc.) that place current events in perspective. As a kind of “image-material,” stacks of photographs transform into sculptures and installations that interact with the body and the surrounding space, shifting the viewer away from the traditional position—standing before an isolated photograph—so that aspects overlooked by image technicalities and conventions come to light.
